Around the Parliament of Brittany
The Parliament of Brittany Square is a stone setting of rare elegance, where the classical palace dialogues with the old façades around it. It is a lovely spot for a late-afternoon rendezvous, when the pale stone catches the light. The Mordelaises Gates, the last remains of the medieval ramparts, mark the entrance to the old town: a symbolic passage, perfect for starting a walk together through the historic centre.
Place Sainte-Anne and Rue Saint-Michel
Place Sainte-Anne and its neighbour Rue Saint-Michel, nicknamed the Thirsty Street, hold the city’s energy: lively terraces, half-timbered houses, warm bars. Students and regulars mingle, and the evening writes itself. For a quieter first drink, Rue du Chapitre with its stately mansions offers a more hushed setting, a stone’s throw from Saint-Pierre Cathedral.
Place des Lices and Place de la Mairie
Every Saturday morning, Place des Lices hosts one of the finest markets in France: galettes-saucisses, oysters from Cancale, Breton produce and smiles under the listed halls. The ideal spot for a foodie morning together. Opposite the town hall, Place de la Mairie and its opera house form a theatrical backdrop. On Lyad, members from Rennes share their favourite addresses: it is up to you to find someone to wander with.
